Tickets are now on sale for the 13th Shropshire Rainbow Film Festival

From the 5th-7th October, the Shropshire Rainbow Film Festival is an inclusive and welcoming event for all film lovers to enjoy the best of recent LGBTQI+ film from around the globe. The festival focusses on nuanced depictions of sexuality and brings our audience into conversation with filmmakers, their art and the community, all in the warm and friendly setting of the heritage listed Old Market Hall Cinema & Cafe/Bar.

This year’s slate sees seven great features, two short film programmes (UK and International) and a fun lecture on Classic Camp in cinema.

Opening the festival is Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, the sexy and surprisingly true story of the creation of DC’s hit comic: Wonder Woman.

We have the Academy Award winning A Fantastic Woman (Best Foreign Film – 2018) a moving drama about a transgender woman suspected of her boyfriend’s death by his family and the police.

A double bill focussing on the depiction of older lesbians on screen: Award-winning short, Marguerite, and Snaphots in which three generations of women contend with the family secrets unearthed when an old roll of film is developed. Join after the screening for a talk!

Alaska Is A Drag will have you cheering for plucky Leo who refuses to be labelled on his way to both diva stardom in a drag contest and champion of the local boxing circuit, all in an effort to find his mother and leave his small town hum-drum life.

Current social issues are examined in both A Moment in the Reeds, an intimate relationship drama between a Finnish man and a Syrian refugee, and In Between, following three Palestinian women sharing an apartment in Tel Aviv and fighting to define themselves against the oppressive expectations of their community and families.

Our Closing night film Mario tackles homophobia in league football as two rising stars forced to choose between their budding relationship and a shot at professional careers. Both actors took out top honours for their performances in the 2018 Swiss film awards!
Will Allaway, volunteer programmer, says “we are really pleased to be delivering the whole weekend program again in partnership with the  OMH  team in this fantastic venue and are very grateful to them for their strong support“.

Join us at the Old Market Hall before the films (or after) for a drink at the fully licensed bar/cafe or a bite to eat.
We look forward to seeing you there!
